The famous Jalapeño pepper (Capsicum annuum) has a slightly curved, conical shape and are blunt towards the end.
Contrary to popular belief, a mature Jalapeño is not green, but red in color. However, it can take quite a while before this color change takes place. Their smooth, light to dark green skin matures to a bright red when fully mature. More mature peppers also show characteristic cracks.
The Jalapeño is very popular in Mexico. The fresh and juicy flesh of this pepper offers a vegetal flavor and spicy bite, with the heat increasing as the pepper peaks in maturity.
